  1. though it is sad to see a tree cut down, that one was finished, the rot is obvious,
we had one in our back yard that had to go, for that very reason, we didn't want the wind to take it down and damage our or anyone elses property

  3. Yes Penny, it was sad to see those trees go, and they were rotten.

  4. hey qotn, thanks for Nina Simone
I found a neat vide of her song that you have here and I hope you get to see it, and do enjoy it.
i looked for a cd today of hers, no luck, I will keep trying, I know I am so old school!

    I don't have an i-pod or an mp3

  5. I prefer the CD if I can get it. You lose so much good sound with the mp3. I don't have an ipod either, but I'm thinking of getting one so that I can just download free books and then connect the ipod to the car stereo system. A lot less messy than changing CDs on the road.

I may have to order it, because stores are not stocking cd like they used to.

  7. That first photo is a stunner, what great shadows. So often it is the lighting that can make a photograph. Thanks.

  8. Hi john,

Thanks. I was happy with that photo. I had been in Pine Park a day or two earlier around sunset and I noticed the shadows. I wanted to go back with my camera.

The first day I was able to do that was cloudy, but I headed off in the direction anyway. When I got to the park there were no shadows, but a few minutes later, the sun popped out from behind the clouds and the shadows converged with that lovely golden light between them. I took the photo and 30 seconds later, the sun fell back behind the clouds.

Unless you look closely at the photo, it seems the light source is in front of the camera, at least to my untrained eye. But when you look closely at the shadows and the trees, you see the light is coming from behind the camera. The camera is pointing east at sunset.

  9. well qotn, apparently I am so out of the loop, that even my daughter has heard of Nina Simone.

"She is like one of the biggest jazz artists!
How could you never have heard of her?"

I said, I was never into jazz, think about it kid, ever hear any growing up?
    Nope.
Sorry to keep on the subject, but, I was telling her about this great song, and how I had the video on the blog and check it out, and she's like duh mom!

  10. Yeah. Kids shine a light on us, and make us think about our lives from a different perspective.

But I'm glad to have shown you Nina and I'm glad you've opened my mind about other things.

  11. hey but that is what it is all about, learning and sharing.
I am a believer that life is a learning experience, all along the way.
Plus I think it keeps the mind active!

  12. That sounds like a lot of photography. Observation, perseverance and a bit of luck too. I've often had to go back and rephoto places due to the light being wrong or not getting enough pictures of something in particular or just because you know it will be better at a specific time of day.

  13. Yeah john, and isn't it exhilarating when you get the good one? I was really chuffed with those trees.

  14. Now I have to get off and check what's happened to my music. Seems to have dropped off the blog, for some reason.
